My first website

Hello there,

In this week's post I am going to tell you all about the development of the first website I am designing from scratch. I'm really excited to finally be able to do this for real, because I have been waiting for this ever since I started learning about coding.

Well, the website is actually an assignment for my Web Design and Development class and the main idea of it is to create a web page for a business and maybe even invent a business in the process. Since I always wanted to have a vegan restaurant, I created Plant B., my new fake business that I already love.

For starters I had to think about what the business and the brand would be like. I had already decided that it would be a plant based and sustainable restaurant. So I started to think about the brand's values and about the consumer profile. I had already studied the vegan market before so I used my knowledge to design some personas. And from that I started putting on paper all my thoughts for the website, starting with the content.

1. Content:

I asked myself what would my custumers look for when they went on the website (following my own tip from The Recipe For a Good Website, hahaha) and I created a content list also looking on my competitor's websites to make sure I had all the information needed.

2. Wireframing:

With the content list in hands I started drawing the wireframe for the website. I watched some youtube videos to get some tips on wireframing and the one below helped me a lot.

3. Brand Guidelines:

Since I am creating a new brand I also created some brand guidelines like logo, color palette, fonts to use, etc. I had many ideas for the logo and after designing five different ones I decided to go with the one bellow.
4. Coding:

After doing all of that I started coding and I am still doing it. It is actually harder then I thought it would be, but I am already loving the results. I really feel like I'm being able to put what is in my mind in the website and I want to give you a sneak peek of what it looks like.

This is the home page with all the colors I chose, the font and this vegan bowl that looks delicious!!

Well, I am still in the beginning but I can already say that Youtube is my new best friend and it has been helping me A LOT with coding. I am learning new things in there all the time and it always solves my doubts. So, this is my tip for you guys today: use youtube and google and start coding, because only by writing code you learn how to do it.

Let me know in the comments what do you think of my website and logo.

Byee.

  1. Hey Giulia, your website is looking really clean, I can see myself delving into the website and learning more about both your website design and vegan food. You're absolutely right that YouTube is your best friend as it is mine, you can learn so much from all the great guides content creators put up. And indeed, that bowl does look delicious!

  2. Nice one, Giulia! As Brian said in the comment above, it's a very clean and clear website and it's easy to visualise the content. By the way, WOW! I cannot believe this is your first time coding!!! Really amazing the amount of effort and time you put into learning a new thing, truly inspiring, my first website was sincerely horrible, I had no aesthetics whatsoever and everything was out of place. What an amazing job, I'm inspired by you! Congrats!
