The Recipe For a Good Website

Hello there,

I don’t think I told you this before, but I am a newbie in Web Design. I have just started learning html and I will start writing my first website soon. Because of that I became really interested in learning more about what makes a good website [1] and I decided to share with you some of the things I learned, and think are really important for making your customers regular visitors.

I am using one Woven Magazine’s website [2] as an example of a great site and I will try to show you why it made into my favorites list.

First: design

Having a pretty website goes way beyond aesthetics, it shows people what to expect from you. This will be your brand face. It will be what people see before getting involved in any way with your company. So, for me that is the top one when thinking about making a website.

Woven Magazine [2] does that beautifully. They have a clean design (which is my favorite kind) that makes you want to see more of what they have to tell you and shows you a lot about their identity.

Second: technicalities

Websites must have a mobile responsive design [3] (or something most people know as a mobile friendly website). That is because more and more people are using their mobile phones to access internet everyday as you can see in the graphic bellow, and if you want this people coming to your site you have to be where they are.

Other really important technical points are
  • fast load speed because without it people will leave your website without thinking twice and are not going to think of coming back.
  • SEO that if made right it can bring more traffic to your website.
  • clear site navigation that will make it easier for people to find what they are looking for, because let’s face it if you have to struggle to find something that should be only some clicks always you are going to look for it somewhere else. For that you can use the three clicks rule [1].
  • secure website that you make your customer know he is in a secure environment.

The last thing
(that is no less important than the others): content

This is what will actually make people like your website and come back for more. For that you have to know who your target is and create your content to make them interested.

In conclusion, my tip for making a good website is: give your consumer what they want, in the easiest and prettiest way you can.

Leave you comments bellow if you have any tips, questions, insights.. anything to say to me.

Byee.

Comments

  1. I think ‘give your consumer what they want, in the easiest and prettiest way you can’ is the perfect way to summarise what one should do when designing and writing a website. If the consumer likes what he sees and what he sees is useful to him, he will naturally want to come back to your website.
